We met Karen and Jonathan at Vivian and David’s wedding, where in spite of being pregnant, Karen made a wonderful and sacrificial bridesmaid. We also got to experience Jonathan’s mad music skills during the reception. Not only is Karen a really cute pregnant woman, but she’s somehow managed to find the cutest maternity clothes on the planet. I love Jonathan and Karen’s sense of humor and we had a great time running around the train station with them.

Denise and Billy | Expectant

It turns out we’ve met Denise and Billy at a mutual friend’s election debate party. We got along then as we made fun of CNN’s ridiculous party-reaction line graphs. And we had a great time taking pictures together-they’re so excited for the upcoming birth of their son. Plus, they introduced us to a really fantastic book store in La Jolla- D.G. Willis- which we will definitely be checking out again soon to see one of their evening readings. And congratulations to Billy and Denise, whose baby should be here any minute!

Jessica and Charles | Expectant

Charles and Jessica are expecting their first baby, Charlie, in May and they’re both glowing. They exude excitement, and because of that and the chance to spend a relaxed morning in Hillcrest, we were pretty thrilled for this shoot. Plus, Jessica and Charles are super cool. Like hip, funky lamp designing kind of cool. Jessica is also the marketing brains behind the Scripps Aquarium, with whom we got to work when doing the Scripps Forum Shoot we love so much.

We started in a great little bookshop on 5th Avenue called Bluestocking Books, where Amy almost bought multiple copies of “The Little Prince.”

After walking around downtown Hillcrest for a while, we headed back to Jessica and Charles’s modern nursery. Although still a work in progress, this room is all kinds of hip. Not a bad spot to hang out in for 4am feedings.

Then we couldn’t leave Hillcrest without a stop at the Farmer’s Market- it’s one of Amy’s favorite San Diego spots. Charlie was as big as 4 oranges when we took these pictures!

Sarah and Jason | Expectant

In Sarah’s Curvy post, Amy and I told you how excited that we are to meet Jason and Sarah’s new baby girl. For their Expectant session, which we schedule for closer to the due date, we decided to head down to the Adams Avenue Bookstore. The bookstore will be closing for renovations for the next few weeks, but we recommend visiting after it reopens. While you’re in the neighborhood, make sure you stop at Mariposa for the best homemade ice cream in San Diego. We did.
