Lauzier Family Portraits: The Reams Photo Year in Review

As many of you know, as part of our official website and blog launch festivities each week we’re choosing one of our favorite photo sessions of the last year and sharing highlights from the shoot. Let’s move on to this week’s edition of The Reams Photo Year in Review.

So, it’s not nice to play favorites. However, that being said, Laura Lauzier is one of my favorite people. When she asked about doing a family portrait shoot with us, Amy and I were thrilled. So, on a beautiful January day, we headed down to downtown San Diego to take some family portraits. Amy and I brought along a cool old chair that we have, thinking that the juxtaposition of the chair and the urban setting might be fun. It was.

After leaving downtown we headed up to Balboa Park. We shot around the park initially, and Amy and I were quite happy with some of the portraits that we took near the Organ Pavilion. I especially like this one of Kayla sneaking her dad a kiss.

As we neared the end of the day, there was one more place that Amy and I were eager to shoot. Near Starlight Musical Theater (where, incidentally, Amy and I met) there is a beautiful grove of trees that really catches the sun beautifully at twilight. We pulled the chair out of Amy’s Civic (quite a feat in itself!) and set it up in the field and just let the light and the Lauzier’s do their thing. The resulting photos are some of my favorite family portraits that we’ve taken so far.

As we were leaving, Amy snapped this ethereal portrait of Kayla lounging on the chair.

It’s going to be a busy week for Reams Photo this week. We’ve got sessions of various types on Thursday, Friday, and Sunday (we’re taking the 4th off to spend with Amy’s family), so be ready for a few more blog posts of current material in the weeks to follow. Thanks for following along with us on this journey-feel free to let us know what you think so far in the comments!
