Charlotte is really enjoying her first experiences with solid food, much of which is fresh from the family garden. For details on making fresh baby food, check out Jason’s blog, Eat the Yard.

Great faces! You guys really captured what we see pretty regularly during feedings — at least when we introduce new foods, particularly green veggies or different textures. It’s funny to see the faces paused, and to see how different she can look from one moment to the next.
We love having this experience from her first year so expertly preserved.
These are so great! I second what Jason said – I love, love, love having these moments captured.

I love the faces she is making! Sometimes I make those faces when eating my veggies lol! She is soooo precious! I look forward to these monthly pictures.

A little while ago, Kim emailed me about doing something a little out of our wedding routine. Her husband John had been serving in Afganistan for over 7 months as a reconnaissance marine. Their tour had been particularly difficult, full of heavy combat, and 4 of the men, including John, received purple hearts. The way she talked about her husband was inspiring. John has been in reconnaissance for 18 years, staggering for such a physical job. Because of his experience, he’s able to mentor the younger members of his battalion, and from what I saw at the homecoming, they are all very grateful and really look up to him a lot.
To add to the sweetness of the reunion, Kim and John have a 4 year old son. Mason could not have been happier to see his dad and couldn’t stop moving as we waited.

I was definitely tearful as I looked around the room at the hundreds of families being reunited. The marine below (I found out later) leads one of the battalions. I loved watching his daughter, just moments after seeing him, share her hurt elbow.

Oh man! These are tear-jerkers! So sweet, and so wonderful that you captured those moments. And I agree – I LOVE the picture with the little girl showing her dad her hurt elbow… too cute!
Thanks for sharing this with me, Janet! It gave me goose bumps! It is an awesome story with great photos.
This brings back memories for me! I know they will love being able to look at these photos to remember what it feels like when your dad comes home safely when they are going through the months of him being gone. (apparently all military families like to wear matching outfits when their serviceman/woman comes home! I thought it was just us!)
Brought tears to my eyes. The military and their families are amazing and totally inspire me!
Wow what wonderful pictures, very emotional..
OMG, what a wonderful, happy time for you all! I love our servicemen and now feel I know one personally. I am so happy for you all!!! (and little Mason is adorable!)
Jan, These photos are so precious….I have tears in my eyes. I’m so happy he’s home safe, and their family is back together! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for allowing us to share this joyous occasion and to see the first precious moments of being reunited! We are so happy and grateful that John is home safe and their family is together again. Thank you God and bless our military, and their families who all sacrifice so much!
These turned out great! wish i was able to be apart of it. great work.
Joan - These are cute–like the raindrops! And for those who haven’t been, the Spruce Street Bridge is a cool part of SD that a lot of people don’t see–have breakfast at Hob Nob Hill and then go see it!
