We’ll be honest. We were a little nervous.
Before we got to Portland, everyone that we talked to about Austin just had one phrase that they repeated about him. “He has his own style,” they said. Several of them. Verbatim.
What does that mean?
Visions of teens with liberty spikes or really pale makeup entered our heads. We envisioned a photo subject with a massive grill that spelled out the word “STYLE” in glittering chrome. We pictured a young man in a vampire cape wearing really short shorts and cowboy boots. “He has his own style.” What does it mean?
Imagine then, if you will, our relief when we met Austin, an attractive, well-groomed, well-dressed senior with a penchant for shoes. He’s a two-sport athlete at his high school and we had a great time taking his senior portraits. And, to our relief, in the most positive sense of the phrase…he has his own style.
We spent the morning at a local university, wandering the campus and, as you saw in the preview, encouraging Austin to jump off of things. A little later in the afternoon, the rest of the family came over and we had a chance to shoot some family portraits as well.
