One of the things that we love about photographing weddings is that each one is unique. Nick and Nina’s had handcuffs, donuts, and a lawn flamingo. It was a day of contrasts. The groomsmen greeted Paul with Miley Cyrus blaring and hatchets in their hands. The wedding was gorgeous, Nina was stunning, the love between Nina and Nick was so apparent, but this wedding left us with a lot of “what. the. awesome?!” moments. Pair a really fun couple with a great coordinator, a legendary San Diego building, and some crazy friends and you get a kick ass party.
We didn’t miss out on the sweet moments, though. The father of the groom toast featured a dad who bet his wife fifty dollars that he wouldn’t cry–he had to pay up during the speech. Nick’s grandmother wore the paper earrings Nick made for her when he was a child. She told him she’d save them and wear them on his wedding day, and she did, 20+ years later. After we took about a zillion pictures of that with wet eyes, we’re now saving everything Lucy’s ever made.
We’re so honored to have been a part of Nick and Nina’s beautiful day. We’ll never look at a pink lawn flamingo the same way.
